Vietnam Airlines to Decide Between A350 and 787-9

Vietnam’s national carrier, Vietnam Airlines, has announced plans to purchase or lease up to 30 Airbus A350-900 or Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft for delivery between 2028 and 2030. Requests for proposals from potential suppliers will be accepted until October 8.

This plan was first discussed in June, but the airline has now launched a more concrete tender process. This move is part of Vietnam Airlines’ broader expansion program extending through 2040. The airline had previously signed an agreement for 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft and secured hundreds of millions of dollars in financing with support from Vietcombank and CitiBank.

As of today, the airline’s fleet includes Airbus A320neo, A321, A350-900, and Boeing 787 aircraft. Additionally, two Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners are expected to be delivered in the near future.
